SPACES
HOW YOU PRESENT YOUR BRAND AND YOUR STOCK IS IMPORTANT. THIS IS THE CASE FOR A FULL STORE, A ‘SHOP IN SHOP’, A POP UP SPACE, OR A JUST A ONSITE DISPLAY. THESE SPACES NEED TO SHOWCASE THE STOCK WELL AND TELL THE STORY OF WHO YOU ARE OR TELL THE ONE YOU WANT THEM TO BELIEVE.
BELOW YOU WILL FIND SEVERAL SPACES DESIGNED FOR EITHER A BRAND OR A COLLECTION, THEY HAVE THE PURPOSE TO SELL AND MOVE UNITS BUT ALSO TO LEAVE AN IMPRESSION.

ARTICLE ONE
THIS IS THE ‘SHOP IN SHOP’ I CREATED FOR AUSTRALIAN BRAND ARTICLE ONE IN MYER. YET TO BE FULLY EXECUTED IT WAS CREATED LIKE ALL ‘SHOP IN SHOPS’ TO GIVE THE BRAND SOME PRESENCE IN A CROWDED DEPARTMENT STORE ENVIRONMENT WHILE ALLOWING FLEXIBILITY FOR VARIATION IN STOCK CAPSULES. IT WALKS THE LINE BETWEEN HOLDING HIGH VOLUME WHILE STILL BEING EASY TO SHOP AND TELL THE STORY OF THE BRANDS AESTHETIC.
THIS IS THE GENERIC DESIGN FOR A 30SQM PAD UTILISING A WALL SECTION AND FLOOR FIXTURES.
RAILS, TABLES, LIGHT BOXES, MANNEQUINS, PLINTHS, AND CUSTOM WALL FIXTURES ARE ALL INCLUDED IN THE SPACE.
THE DESIGN USES A MIXTURE OF METAL AND TIMBER AS WELL AS HIGHLIGHTS OF COLOUR. THE OAK ADDS WARMTH AND IS A VERSATILE MATERIAL, ESPECIALLY IN A HIGH STORE AS ANY PROBLEMS JUST SCRATCH BACK TO WOOD. COLOUR FLOURISHES ON THE BASE OF THE RAILS AND TABLES ADD INTEREST AND HELP TO DEFINE THE BRAND WHILE LARGE SECTIONS OF COLOUR PROVIDE A FOCAL POINT AND IS A POINT OF DIFFERENCE ON FIXTURES DESIGNED TO HOLD LARGE AMOUNTS OF STOCK. ILLUMINATED IMAGRY AND LOGO DRAW THE EYE AS WELL AS PERMANENT BRANDING ATOP EACH RAIL. STORAGE BELOW THE TABLES HELP WITH REFILL IN A STORE ENVIRONMENT LIKE MYER. TORSOS ALLOW FOR STYLING TO BE TAILORED TO RECENT DELIVERIES AND NEGATE THE NEED FOR FOOTWEAR IN STYLING.
FLOOR FIXTURES WERE PRODUCED FOR SEVERAL LOCATIONS ONE BEING MYER MELBOURNE CITY. AS THE BRAND EXPANDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXTEND THE FOOTPRINT TO INCLUDED WALLS AND ADD IMAGERY. BELOW SHOWS HOW THE DESIGN WAS TAILORED TO THIS LOW CEILING SPACE USING SOME OF THE FIXTURES ALREADY ONSITE IN ORDER TO GIVE THE BRAND MORE PRESENCE AND INCREASE THE STOCK CAPACITY. PHOTOS ARE OF SHOP FLOOR FIXTURES IN PLACE READY FOR FULL PAD.

‘CURATED’
AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT POINTS OVER THE YEARS GLUE STORE HAS FOUND SUCCESS WITH WOMEN’S HIGHER PRICED POINTED SLIGHTLY MORE PREMIUM STOCK. DURING THESE PERIODS THE BUSINESS CREATED SPECIAL DESTINATIONS IN STORE WITH FIXTURES AND DISPLAY IN ORDER TO PUSH TO CAPSULES. IN 2015 THIS DESTINATION AND STOCK WAS COINED ‘CURATED’.
THE DESIGN WE PRODUCED USED A MIXTURE OF MATERIALS TO GIVE THE AREA ITS LOOK. MARBLE WAS OUT OF THE BUDGET RANGE BUT THERE ARE OPTIONS IN CEASER STONE THAT GIVE A VERY PREMIUM LOOK. PAIRED WITH A DARK TIMBER, BLACK POWDER COATED METAL, AND BRASS DETAILING ON THE EDGES OF THE TIMBER AND FOR THE HANGING BARS IT ALL WORKED TOGETHER TO HELP ELEVATE THE STOCK AND BRANDS WITHIN THE ‘CURATED’ SPACE.
THIS SPACE HAD MULTIPLE VARIATIONS. BELOW IS A LITTLE TASTE OF WHAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN.
ONE SUCH VARIATION HAD THE FIXTURES ANGLED AND LEANING AGINST THE WALLS. WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHTS FOR THE CROSS BARS THIS WAS A VERSATILE OPTION
A MORE EXPENSIVE BUILD WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ‘HANGING’ OPTION. A METAL GRID SUSPENDED FROM THE CEILING WITH TABLES, RAILS AND MORE SUSPEND FROM THE OVERHEAD LATTICE. WITH NOTHING TOUCHING THE FLOOR IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY CLEAN OPTION THAT MAKE THE STOCK FEEL PREMIUM AND FLOATING.

HIGHPOINT FOOTWEAR
IN 2016 GLUE STORE NEEDED A NEW DESIGN FOR THE FOOTWEAR SECTION AT HIGHPOINT SUPER GLUE STORE. THE DESIGN BELOW WAS CREATED AND CONSTRUCTED TO FIT INTO ONE OF THE ACTIVATION SPACES ALREADY IN PLACE AT THE FRONT OF THE 1000SQM STORE. THE CONCEPT THEN WENT ON TO BECOME THE GLUE STORE FOOTWEAR STANDARD PACK FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF STORES ROLLED OUT IN 2016-18.
WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE SUPPLIER ALL ELEMENTS WERE DESIGNED, PROTOTYPED, CONSTRUCTED, AND SENT TO VICTORIA. INSTALLED ALL IN ONE DAY/NIGHT UTILISING THE EXISTING ACTIVATION SPACE FRAMEWORK WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE A FOOTWEAR SHOP WITHIN THE STORE THAT COULD BE VIEWED FROM VIRTUALLY ALL DIRECTIONS. THIS MOVE THEN CREATED SPACE FOR ADDITIONAL APPAREL LINEAR THAT WAS CONVERTED AT THE SAME TIME.
ALL SHELVING HAD ILLUMINATION FROM ABOVE AND MAGNETIC SIGNAGE BLOCKS THAT COULD BE PLACED ABOVE EACH SECTION TO CALL OUT BRAND, CLASS OR OTHER INFORMATION.
THE VARIOUS FIXTURE PANELS ALLOWED VM TO BREAK THE STOCK BY BRAND AND BY GENDER AND GAVE FLEXIBILITY GOING FORWARD TO PRESENT FOOTWEAR HOWEVER IT WAS NEEDED.
HIGHLIGHT SECTIONS SHOWCASING PAIRS OF FOOTWEAR WITH LIGHT BOXES ABOVE AND BELOW ALLOW BRANDS OR INDIVIDUAL FOOTWEAR STYLES TO BE A FOCUS. A SCREEN ADDED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE FIXTURES ALLOWED FOR INSTANT CHANGE AND INFORMATION TO BE PRESENTED ON THE AREA TO PASSING CUSTOMERS.
THREE TIMBER PLINTHS GAVE A SEPERATE FOCAL POINT ON THE FLOOR AREA THROUGH REPETITION AND AS A CLEAN AND SIMPLE WAY TO SHOW PAIRS OF FOOTWEAR.
TABLES IN TWO SIMPLE COLOURS MAKE THE FOOTWEAR BREAKDOWN EASIER AND MORE VERSATILE. THE TWO TIER TABLES SHOWCASE A MID SIZE BRAND AND WHEN PAIRED WITH THE GREY SEATING FIT PERFECTLY TOGETHER BUT CAN BE MOVED APART WHEN NEEDED. A MIRROR WAS FIXED TO ONE WALL SECTION WITH ANOTHER FLOATING MIRROR PRODUCED TO SIT WITH ADDITIONAL SEATING JUST OUTSIDE OF THE SPACE.

SHOWROOM
WORKING WITH THE BUSINESS WHOLESALE DIVISION, TREND IMPORTS, I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO HELP DESIGN SOME SHOWROOM SPACES FOR THEIR VARIOUS BRANDS. TASKED WITH CREATING SPACES THAT WERE WHITE, CLEAN, AND SIMPLE SO THAT ANY OF THE IN-HOUSE BRANDS COULD COME IN AND TAKE OVER THE SPACE IN A QUICK AND EASY CHANGE OVER. EACH ROOM WAS MAXIMISED FOR SPACE TO ALLOW THE BRAND MANAGERS TO SHOWCASE FULL RANGES WHEN NEEDED WITH A CLEAN SIGNAGE SYSTEM THAT ALLOWED ANYONE TO CHANGE OVER IN AN INSTANT.
ALL SHOWROOMS HAVE THE SAME BASIC DESIGN OR FAMILY OF FIXTURE. THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A SIMPLE BASE SO THAT ANY BRAND COULD OWN THE SPACE. THE ALL WHITE DESIGN TOO PROVIDED A CLEAR BACKGROUND FOR CHANGING COLOUR PALLETS OF STOCK.
ALL SIGNAGE SIMPY SAT ON TOP OF THE UPPERMOST EDGE OF THE WALL FIXTURE. USING GRAVITY TO HOLD IN PLACE IT MEANT THAT THE SIGNAGE COULD BE USED ANYWHERE ON ALL WALL FIXTURES.
THE FOOTWEAR SHOWROOM GAVE LARGE FOOTWEAR BRANDS LIKE SUPERGA A MORE PERMANENT HOME WHILE SMALLER PANELS FIXED TO WALLS IN THE COMMON AREAS WERE GREAT FOR SMALL BRANDS AND CAPSULES. THESE FOOTWEAR FIXTURES USED THE SAME SIGNAGE SYSTEM FOR FLEXIBILITY. THE INDIVIDUAL SHELVES FOR EACH SHOE ON THESE SHARED SPACE WALLS GIVES THE AREA STRUCTURE AND UNIFORMITY WITHOUT TAKING UP TOO MUCH DEPTH INTO THE HALLWAYS.
THE SHELVING SYSTEM IN THE ROOMS WITH MORE DEPTH AND LONG SINGLE RUNS ALLOW FOR MUCH MORE FLEXIBILITY AND DISPLAY ADDITIONS. ACCESSORIES, PROPS, FOOTWEAR, AND LOOK BOOKS CAN ADDED TO OUTFIT ANY BRAND.

DENHAM
INTERNATIONAL DENIM BRAND DENHAM WAS SOMETHING GLUE STORE WANTED TO PUSH AT THE OPENING OF THEIR MIRANDA GLUE STORE AND EMPORIUM SUPERGLUE STORE. THEY WERE KEY TO ELEVATE THE BRAND MIX, IMPORTANT FOR THE ATELIER SERVICE ASSOCIATED WITH THE BRAND THAT WAS A BIG PART OF GLUE DENIM AREAS AT THE TIME. FOR THE LAUNCH TWO AREAS WERE MADE TO SHOWCASE THE STOCK, PROPS, AND HOUSE ATELIER MACHINES AND STAFF. THESE ARE THOSE AREAS.
FOR THE MIRANDA OPENING I DESIGNED A TIMBER AND METAL STRUCTURE TO SIT AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE MENS SIDE OF THE STORE. BUILT BY CHUNK DESIGN IT OFFERED A DENIM MIX AND CUSTOMISATION SERVICES IN THE 500SQM STORE.
THE SUPERGLUE EMPORIUM DESIGN WAS A LITTLE CLOSER IN STYLE TO THAT OF THE STORE BUILT IN THE ROCKS MADE FROM PLYWOOD AND PIPING. THIS WAS A SIMPLE FRAMEWORK FOR THE BRAND PROPS AND STOCK. THIS FIXTURE WAS LAUNCHED EARLY IN A SPACE NEARBY THE NEW STORE BEFORE BEING MOVED INTO PLACE ON THE MENS LEVEL FOR OPENING DAY.
IMAGES ABOVE SHOW THE MIRAND STORE SET UP ON OPENING DAY WITH THE ATELIER, STOCK, AND CUSTOM LETTERING FOR THE EVENT.
THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS SHOW THE EMPORIUM DENHAM FIXTURE SET UP IN THE POP UP LOCATION A MONTH FOR THE SUPERGLUE LAUNCH. DESIGNED TO BE VIEWED IN THE ROUND IT EVENTUALLY SAT ON THE MENS LEVEL NEAR THE OTHER DENIM BRANDS AND COULD BE SEEN WHEN DESCENDING THE STORE STAIRS OR ELEVATOR.
